Well, in typical Grattan fashion the morning consisted of me trying not to get sunburned and the afternoon was rather soggy. In between there were winds high enough to batter my canopy so bad we decided to tear it down to prevent it’s imminent destruction. All went well except for one stubborn Flash Card that decided it wasn’t going to work today. I lost the Advanced group’s first session photos. I’m sure everyone from the Advanced group is bummed I lost the shots of them going slow in the morning.
The high winds today played some havoc on my telephoto shots. I have plenty of shots of heads cut off and empty track. If you were looking for those you have plenty to choose from. It was quite frustrating battling the wind, those long telephoto shots are hard enough to pull off without a tripod. I also got plenty of awesome photos of everyone so head over to the gallery and check them out! Sunday was a much better day for photos. There are plenty of them coming!
I shot roughly 19,000 photos the entire weekend and they will be in the GALLERY.
Prices are:
99 cents for small web images.
$5 for large web images.
$10 for full size files.

I took the family out to Grand Ledge to cookout with our friends Ed and Darcy and to take some photos of everyone rock climbing. My family was bored to tears but I had a great time and got some killer shots. I took about 400 photos I will be editing and uploading. They should be done by Tuesday morning May 26th.
UPDATE: All the photos are done uploading. The gallery is available here:

2009 MIVE Gingerman Raceway Photo CD: $80
I went out to Grattan Raceway to shoot some photos of a friend of mine. The event organizer, Dan Schmitt, a super cool guy, asked if he could get some photos for his web site. I shot some extra photos for him and met some cool people. Thanks to the colder temps and icy wind I never realized I was getting sunburned. My face looks like a baboon’s ass now but I got some good photos and got to hang out with a friend, enjoy some track ambiance, and meet some new people. If I shot some photos of you and you’re interested in them, you can purchase prints or digital files from my gallery here: ONLINE GALLERY
All Photos have now been uploaded into the gallery!
Well, It’s 2009! Yeah! Last year I got super busy at my day job and didn’t bother to update the main photo blog much. I was still taking photos, just not updating the blog. I plan on at least a monthly update so you can check out new pics once in a while. Cheers and have a great new year!
The annual MIVE trackday can be summed up in one word: WET. The track was slippery and the soaked grass was even worse thanks to rain that lasted all day long. While I find wet tracks to be immensely entertaining for the sheer amount of hoonage that that one can cram into one afternoon, many others did not find the wet surface quite so amusing as they slid off and became lodged firmly in the mud that was lurking just off track. Thanks to the many warm and waterproof layers I dressed in I was able to shoot all day in the cold rain and manage to stay toasty.
Even though Canon lables the 40D “weather sealed” my camera and lens were sporting full rain jackets that worked perfectly all day long. Canon’s new digic III processor provided INSANELY accurate and lightning quick focus locks on the cars. My old 5D would routinely have problems in low light high speed situations. The new camera is quite a remarkable jump forward. I had a great time and it was nice shooting the breeze with both old friends and new!
I am a member of a car club called MIVE (Michigan Volkswagen Enthusiasts). Every year we hold a lapping day at a Raceway. This year we will be enjoying the challenging course at Grattan Raceway! I will be offering INSANELY high pre-purchase discounts to MIVE members and attendees. Normal Price for a photo CD, which includes all the photos of you and your car during the event, is $60. MIVE members can Pre-Order theirs for $20!!! That’s a 66% discount!! I urge all members to take advantage of this offer as that price is only good for pre-purchases. Those who will also be attending but are not MIVE members can also get a reduced Pre-Order Price of $30, that’s a 50% Discount! Shipping and handling for each Photo CD is $5.00. Photos purchased the day of the event or afterwards will be the normal price. When purchasing using the buttons below please remember to include a complete vehicle description and your username on MIVE:
I will be working out of town for the rest of January. If you try to reach me, you probably will, but just not quite as quickly as you’d like.
The new website and galleries are nearly done. Here is a link to the old gallery and site just in case anyone is looking for event photos from last year. I have already gotten a few requests for last years photos since the new site launched. I will be adding photos from the old gallery slowly as I revisit them and decide if they will make the cut for the new website. It might a never ending job to add photos.THE OLD GALLERY If you have any questions just hit the contact button and ask away.
There are going to be some major upgrades to the ordering systems for photos. I’m getting to the point where I can’t keep up with order requests done manually by myself. I will be migrating my entire event based gallery sets over to a commercial company that can process the orders quickly and easily so that customers can order with their credit card thru a trusted company instead of Paypal. This will translate into very very easy ordering of photos. As you browse the gallery you can just add photos you wish to purchase, in whatever size you want, as you go. Then the photos will be shipped directly to you. It will make my job easier so I can focus on shooting more photos and customers will get their photos quicker. It’s a win-win situation. Look for the changes by the first of the year!
